Over the past few months we have had the same conversation with CEOs across Dubai, Riyadh, and Doha. It usually starts with: “Marketing feels harder than it used to. What changed?”
Everything and nothing. The fundamentals are the same. The mechanics are new. Here is what we tell them, condensed into five points.
One: your customers are asking AI about you. Around 60 percent of searches now end without a click, and a growing share of buyers ask ChatGPT or Perplexity who to hire before they ever visit a website. If those tools cannot find clear, consistent, trustworthy information about your business, you do not make the shortlist. Check what AI says about you this week. Most CEOs are surprised.
Two: AI agents are moving from demos to daily work. Not science fiction: lead qualification, budget adjustments, reporting. A 2026 study found 93 percent of UAE business leaders expect real returns from agentic AI within two years. The companies that benefit will be the ones with clear processes. AI cannot automate chaos.
Three: Arabic-first is a competitive advantage, not a courtesy. Most regional marketing is English-first with Arabic bolted on. Audiences notice. As Arabic AI models improve fast, the gap between translated content and genuinely Arabic-first campaigns will only get more visible.
Four: own your audience. Ad costs climb every quarter. Businesses with their own email lists, WhatsApp communities, and loyalty programs pay less to reach customers they already earned. Rented reach gets more expensive. Owned reach compounds.
Five: measure what matters now. Clicks and impressions tell you less every year. Start tracking whether AI tools mention you when customers ask about your category, and whether the visitors who do arrive actually convert.
Here is the encouraging part. None of these five shifts favors the biggest budget. They favor the clearest strategy and the most consistent execution. A focused mid-size business in Sharjah or Jeddah can outmaneuver a larger competitor this year, because most large organizations are still debating these changes in committees while smaller ones are already implementing them.
We see it in our own client work: the companies winning in the Gulf right now are not the ones spending the most. They are the ones who picked two or three of these shifts early, committed to them, and measured honestly.
None of this requires a bigger budget. It requires a clearer strategy.
